worlds cheapest car is only available in India

The worlds cheapest car is only available in India. But the Tata Nano, which currently cost $2,000-$2,500 depending upon exchange rates, could be available in the United States within three years, according to the chairman of Tata Motors.

Speaking at the New Delhi Auto Show, Ratan Tata said his company is considering distribution of the Nano in the United States after its pending debut in Europe at the end of 2011.

We also recognize there is a market (for the Nano) not only in developing countries, but possibly in the developed countries, said Tata and as reported on Reuters.com. For the United States we need a car which has a larger engine and we need additional crash test modifications and we are in the process of doing it.

The Nano first gathered its signature as the worlds cheapest car two years when Tata showcased the Nano for first time as the last New Delhi Auto Show.

Tata said his companys plans may include hybrid models. Tata also noted Fiat, the Italian manufacturer, and Tata Motors plan to sell the Nano jointly in Latin America.

Tata Motors, which has about 60 percent of Indias truck and bus market, launched a 7-seater multipurpose vehicles named Tata Aria, an 8-seater Tata Venture and another vehicle named Magic IRIS at the New Delhi show.

It also showcased the Jaguar XJ sedan for the first time at the New Delhi show. Tata purchased Jaguar and Land Rover last year.
