Tip #1
Seasons matter. Sell in the best time of the year. Give people enough time to re-coup from big holidays like Christmas. Wait till they have some spending money again. Any holiday where people are likely to be off work or school, but not out of town is a good time to put your car up for sale. People will have the time, the money, and the inclination to shop and buy. Of course, lack of time may be a good thing too, as there is less time to haggle about price, and less time to comparison-shop.
Tip #2
First Impressions count. As with just about anything else in life, first impressions have a lasting effect. Before you sell your car, make sure it's clean inside and out. If it's shiny, neat, and fresh-smelling, your car will sell much more easily for more money.
Tip #3
Proper preparation prevents poor performance. Have things like the pink slip, spare keys, and spare tires ready to go before you even see a potential buyer. Any unnecessary inconvenience to the buyer gives him or her a reason to doubt whether this will be a good deal, and any unnecessary delay gives him or her a chance to take that doubt seriously. Be organized beforehand, make both yourself and the buyer happy, and maximize the success of your sale.
