Carmagazine got their hands on the latest official Audi design sketches of the upcoming Audi A1, expected to take on Mini and other premium super minis, when it hits the market in 2009.
Audi has four different versions of the A1 in the pipeline; three- and five-door hatchbacks, a two-door coupé as well as a convertible; whether it will be a four-seater convertible or a two-seat roadster is uncertain. What appears to be certain, however, is that the A1 will come with Quattro four-wheel drive, possibly paving the way for two further derivatives, a Q1 and a sporty S1...
The standard A1 models will be front-wheel driven and thanks to Volkswagen Group's renowned 1.4-litre TSI engine, power output will range between 65 and 170 bhp. According to Carmagazine.com, the S1 is "tipped to get angular flared wheel arches like the 1980 quattro coupe" and is likely to be powered by the 200 bhp 2.0-litre TFSI engine, currenly fitted in the Golf GTi. Diesel power output is expected to range between 75 and 130 bhp, all variants using the same 1.6-litre four-cylinder diesel.
Priced from 16,000 euros upwards with ambitious sales targets of 100,000 units in 2010 show that Audi is serious about going head-to-head with Mini. Which is your pick?
